Patient Services
Personalised, Connected Care
Providing exceptional patient care goes beyond having the best specialists—it’s an all-encompassing experience that begins the moment you walk through our doors. Every step of the way, the goal is to combine clinical excellence with personalised care to deliver an exceptional experience for every patient.
Our highly trained clinic and theatre teams, including nurses, technicians, and surgeons, work together to deliver the best in patient-centred care. Staff are continually upskilled through comprehensive training, accreditations, continuing professional development and cultural competency programmes to meet the highest standards.
By aligning with Tikanga guidelines and the Treaty of Waitangi, we ensure thoughtful care tailored to cultural needs. We pay special attention to our visually impaired or elderly patients and treat them with the utmost compassion.
Public Patients
It’s important to acknowledge that while our facilities and overarching care standards remain consistent, there are variations in how services are delivered between public and private systems. These differences are designed to provide the best care possible within the resources available.
Public patients receive care through a volume-focused system, which prioritises treating as many patients as possible. As a result, consultations may be shorter, and wait times for appointments can be longer.
Specialist Care
Treatment options in the public system are determined by Health New Zealand / Te Whatu Ora funding guidelines. Access to treatment and services is met through a process of clinical priority. However, at Tauranga Eye Specialists we take great pride in delivering appropriate care to patients whenever it is required. Public healthcare also relies on a structured team-based approach.
Public patients are often seen by registrars—qualified doctors undergoing specialised training—who work closely with and under the supervision of experienced consultants. While there are some differences between public and private services, Tauranga Eye Specialists is proud to provide public patients with high-quality care in our state-of-the-art facilities and equipment. Our commitment to excellence ensures every patient receives the care they need across the Bay of Plenty region.
Private & ACC
At Tauranga Eye Specialists, we’re uniquely positioned to offer an unparalleled level of care in our purpose-built, state-of-the-art facilities.
As a private patient, you benefit from shorter wait times and access to a wider array of treatment options—all delivered by our highly skilled and reputable specialists, each at the top of their field. With six dedicated experts on our team, you can trust that your eye health is in exceptional hands.
Tauranga Eye Specialists is an ACC-accredited provider. If you experience an eye accident, one of our doctors will treat you urgently and continue your care as long as necessary.
Our clinic is also an affiliated provider for Southern Cross Health Society, NIB and all private health insurers.
